In a stunning about turn, Hertsmere council leaders this evening announced that they've shelved their Local Plan. Congratulations to all the residents whose hard work in generating 20,000 responses to the consultation has forced the council leadership into a climbdown.
Hertsmere could have saved a lot of time and money, and avoid causing so much anxiety for residents if they'd have accepted last September that their draft Local Plan was unacceptable to residents. They've failed to show leadership. Only now have they finally conceded they need to go back to government for a better deal on housing targets - something we and residents' groups have long campaigned for.
We must all keep on the pressure to hold them to their word.
