Dear Kenilworth Neighbours,

Borehamwood is a vibrant and lively place to live and I am proud to be a part of such a fantastic community. That's why I am so excited to be standing for the Liberal Democrats in Borehamwood Kenilworth in the upcoming by-election.

I'm asking for the opportunity to represent you as your local borough councillor on Thursday 13th February.

As Chair of Elstree & Borehamwood Residents Association (EBRA) for six years, I have learnt a lot about what local people want. I set up EBRA with the goal of helping residents to help themselves. Some of its successes include making sure the recycling centre stayed open and the campaign to stop a reduction in bus services. EBRA began a brilliant local defibrillator campaign which has seen this lifesaving equipment installed in public places. It promotes consultations with developers and held meetings for residents on the local plan and most recently the Sky Studios development.

Hertsmere Council needs to be held to account for ignoring the views of the local residents. They have been building housing developments in key employment zones and removing garages for ugly and unsuitable modular/container homes. Not enough effort is spent protecting our green spaces and mature trees.

We need councillors in this area that can stand up to the Council and their flawed Local Plan. It seems that 9000 more houses need to be found. The Liberal Democrats say we need new and affordable homes, but in the right location and with the proper infrastructure. Doctors, hospitals, roads and schools are already stretched to the limit and the council plans to provide these required facilities are too vague.

Sky are investing heavily in Borehamwood with the massive new Studio Complex on Rowley Lane, we must make sure that this development, which is partly on green belt land, works for residents with local employment opportunities, does not cause traffic problems, and has as light a touch on the environment as possible.

You can count on me to listen and to demand better for Kenilworth. Please get in touch if there are any issues I can help you with. I hope I can rely on your support on Thursday, 13th February.

Yours sincerely,

Andy Lewis
