Extend Free School Meals
Hertsmere Liberal Democrats are urging the government to extend free school meals so no child living in poverty misses out - even during holidays and periods of lockdown.
After a high-profile campaign led by footballer Marcus Rashford, the Government provided food vouchers for the poorest families through the summer holidays.
Now we want them to go further and permanently extend eligibility for free school meals so no child living in poverty misses out, and guarantee vouchers for all future school holidays and periods of lockdown.
Here in our borough of Hertsmere, around 1,800 children rely on term-time free school meals. Sadly, our local MP, Oliver Dowden - a senior government minister - recently voted against an extension.
Sign our petition to ensure those families get the help they need, not just as a one-off but as part of a long term plan to end child hunger.
