Darren Diamond, Kenilworth borough by-election candidate

Darren Diamond is the Lib Dem candidate for the Hertsmere Borough Council by-election for Borehamwood Kenilworth. This ward includes the areas around Manor Way, Balmoral Drive, Farriers Way, Bullhead Road, Elstree Way, and Studio Way, as well as Well End.

EXPERIENCE Runs an accountancy firm, and also a care agency

COMMUNITY Active in local community in tackling potholes and fly-tipping.

VALUES Curbing over-development and ensuring new housing comes with improved infrastructure.

Darren's plan for Kenilworth

  1. A fairer deal on development Borehamwood is shouldering an unfair share of the development which Hertsmere is approving in order to meet government housing targets. Other towns in the borough are putting up with significantly less. Darren will fight to change this, and also press for greater use of unoccupied housing as an alternative to new-builds.
  2. Better services Hundreds of new homes are being built in Borehamwood every year, but public services are not keeping pace. Darren will fight for a new GP surgery and secular secondary school in south Borehamwood -which has around 10,000 homes but no mainstream high school and poor GP provision.
  3. Fairer housing Meanwhile, less than 10% of Borehamwood new builds are affordable. Darren will join Hertsmere Lib Dem councillors in using their influence to get a higher proportion of social and affordable housing in any new housing development which wins approval. To help achieve this, Lib Dems want to end the scandal of Hertsmere council hoarding £8 million in developers cash which is officially earmarked for social housing.
  4. Protect Borehamwood's greenbelt Darren will vote against any Local Plan which includes the proposed Hertswood Studios in Well End - a huge sacrifice of precious greenbelt in return for precious little quality employment for local residents.
  5. A greener Borehamwood Hertsmere Lib Dems have already helped drive forward new planning rules for greater sustainability and solar panel requirements in new builds. These need to be taken further, alongside an expansion of rooftop solar, more cycle lanes, and improvements in recycling.
  6. Stay in touch Darren will hold regular residents' surgeries - unlike the Tories, who can't be bothered. Also, a new hotline for reporting local problems.
