Paul Richards, Bushey South County Council Candidate

Paul Richards is pledging to provide a truly local voice for south Bushey at Hertfordshire County Council, who control key public services including schools, roads, and social care. He wants to make it much easier for residents to air views and get problems tackled - and to fight for better transport, action on the climate emergency, and helping the vulnerable and disadvantaged.

Paul has also led the fight against Watford FC moving to Bushey. And like all Lib Dem councillors, he will vote againt any Local Plan which includes either a stadium on Bushey Hall Golf Club, or the proposed 1,950 pupil school on the Bushey Country Club site.

Paul says: "Having learned so much as a borough councillor about what Bushey residents really need, I'm ready to fight our corner at the county council, and start getting a better deal for local people".

Paul's Plan for Bushey

  1. Stop the Stadium: Paul, and ALL Bushey's Lib Dem councillors, will vote against any Local Plan which includes Watford FC stadium on Bushey Hall Golf Course.
  2. No school at Bushey Country Club Equally, ALL Bushey's Lib Dem councillors will vote against any Local Plan which includes the proposed 1,950 pupil secondary school. Hertsmere does need another secondary school but it must be built where there is a genuine need for more capacity - in Radlett, Shenley or Borehamwood - rather than making parents drive their children to Bushey which already has more schools than those neighbourhoods. Siting a school at the Country Club would be a pointless sacrifice of precious public greenbelt.
  3. Safer, better, highways Restore a fair share of county funding and fix Bushey's roads and pavements. 20mph limits for residential roads.
  4. Stay in touch The Lib Dem team will continue their regular residents' surgeries. A new hotline for reporting local problems.
  5. Greener More cycle lanes and rooftop solar power. Improve local bus services and household recycling.
  6. Fairer Expand free school meals for disadvantaged children. Pay carers a living wage.
  7. Cleaner Curb fly-tipping. Clean litter from the river Colne
