Bushey Lib Dem councillors provide funding for village bench

Bushey Lib Dem councillors sitting on village bench

We heard from many residents who were disappointed the bench had been removed from the High Street pavement near Park Road, in Bushey village.

It had always been a handy spot for a sit down.

Street benches are the responsibility of Hertfordshire County Council.

Bushey Lib Dems don’t have the county councillor for this area. But regardless, that council no longer replaces benches when they reach the end of their lives and must be removed (as had happened here).

However, we realised that our Lib Dem borough councillors could access some Ward Improvement Scheme funding to replace the bench through Hertsmere Borough Council instead.

It’s now in place, tested out here by Cllrs Mia Handley and Shailain Shah, who with Cllr Chris Shenton arranged the grant.

Thanks to Hertsmere officers for all their help with this.
